I must admit that I sometimes (just sometimes) get just a little bit grumpy when my blood sugar levels drop below a critical level. Ok, no, I risk going ballistic when it happens. Once, when we were mountainbiking down Ryfjället in Västerbotten and I didn’t manage to ride a particularly sketchy part, I was inches from throwing my bike down the creek. I managed to avoid doing that. Instead, I threw a big rock twisting my already hurt shoulder, and screamed at my fellow riders to just ride ahead and leave me for my death (very dramatic indeed, ok no, I didn’t mention death, but the gaps between my words were definitely saying just that). Needless to say, I was a pain in the ass for everyone around me, and since I am a sucker for appreciation I have (with the help of my fellow riders) developed a very nice rule which I stick to like glue: Never go more than 45 minutes without stuffing some energy inside that boney body of mine. I think it works quite well. Sure, I still whine (otherwise I wouldn’t be me), but I haven’t thrown a single item since that episode in the lush Västerbotten forest. Of course, I am very picky with exactly what I eat. I find it extremely important to get as much nutrients as possible in order to build a strong and healthy body.
I planned to also include list of the beer I drink when I get home from the mountain (important fluids!), but it is too long. I think it needs a post of its own.
