As I think is fairly obvious, I like Laramie and this part of the United States in general. I like it A LOT. Well, it just moved up one place on my list of the greatest places on earth. So, I lost my wallet yesterday. I actually did. I never loose stuff, but this time, it just wasn’t in my bag no matter how many times I searched it (I usually find my stuff; keys, wallets, glasses, whatever, on the fiftyeleventh time I look). I must have placed it on the car seat when I wass filling up Larry in Walden on the way back from our fantastic day at Cameron Pass, and then, as I stepped out to unload the gear next to Coal Creek, it must have fallen out. Tough luck, I’m with stupid. I actually went back to search for it, but of course I didnt find it. I didn’t have any hope of finding it. Gah! The mess of having to replace all those cards. The good thing was that I didn’t think that I had much cash in it. Oh well, not much to do.
And so here I am, working on a Saturday night (I know, I’m turning into a total nerd), when I receive an email from a police officer.
My name is Officer [ so and so] with the Laramie Police Department in Laramie, WY. I am writing to let you know that someone found your wallet and personal belongings within. This was found in the downtown area. I have tried to locate a phone number for you through UWyo but to no avail.
Per our department requirement and policy, I will be entering your property into our evidence department as found property.
You would be able to contact our evidence department to pick up your property when available. Please call [so and so], Tues through Fri from 9am -5pm in order to arrange pick up.
Ofc. So and so
Laramie Police Department”
Not only that, he actually came by to give me the wallet, and in the wallet I apparently had quite a significant amount of cash, like $140… That I didnt know I had there. Oops, I’m obviously still not used to counting in USD. I never think about a $20 bill as 140 SEK. Jeebs! Anyway, the people who found the wallet handed it in with all its money, and the police managed to track me down by googling my name. I cannot say anything else than that this is truly amazing. I’m stunned. I wish I knew who found it so that I could thank them in some way, but I don’t, so who ever you are, THANK YOU! Laramie totally rocks!
