Today was no ordinary Wednesday. Today was the Wednesday when I, instead of getting on the bus to work to spend the day sitting on my boney little butt, got picked up by Kjersti and Kenneth and headed out to Kaldfjord with two kayaks on the car roof.
Today was the day when dreams came true.
Today I got to sit in a kayak and watch orcas and humpback whales swimming just 5 meters from my paddle.
Their breathing is loud, and their movement silent.
They are beautiful beyond belief.
Today was the day when we saw a flock of about 10-15 humpbacks diving completely synchronized. We only saw the flow from a distance, but a single humpback swam peacefully in front of our boats for a couple of minutes.
Today was the day when we at one point were completely surrounded by a flock of killer whales.
Unfortunately, today was not the day when I managed to take fantastic, or even remotely decent photos (it is apparently very wet in a kayak).
But I just can’t NOT post these photos. They portray my dream coming true.
I am so immensely glad and thankful for getting the opportunity to live in this place, and for having the privilege of knowing fantastic people that go to all kinds of trouble to make it possible for me to join them on their adventures. I don’t celebrate Thanksgiving. But today, I need to give thanks.
